Laser Cutting of Oil Well Slotted Liners

Laser cutting of oil well slotted liners is one of the typical applications of laser cutting technology in the petrochemical industry. In the process of oil drilling, sand control in unconsolidated formations is one of the most critical aspects of well completion and oil production engineering design. The conventional approach involves machining a large number of fine slots around the circumference of the pipe to block most of the formation sand while allowing oil and gas to flow through.

One of the key advantages of laser cutting lies in its ability to produce tapered slots – either wider on the outside and narrower on the inside, or the reverse configuration. This unique slot geometry significantly enhances the sand-control performance of oil well slotted liners, improving filtration efficiency and extending the service life of the completion equipment.
