Function in Lubrication System:
The oil pump functions to pressurize engine oil to a specified pressure and deliver it to the moving surfaces of engine components. Oil pumps are categorized into two main structural types: gear-type and rotor-type. Gear-type pumps are further classified as internal gear and external gear designs, with the latter commonly referred to simply as gear pumps.

Application
How does an oil pump work? It is a component designed to generate oil pressure and ensure a steady flow of oil to each friction surface. Internal combustion engines widely utilize gear-type and rotor-type oil pumps. Gear pumps feature a simple structure, are easy to manufacture, reliable in operation, and have a long service life, with the ability to generate relatively high oil pressure. Rotor pumps are also widely used, benefiting from advanced manufacturing processes such as powder metallurgy. These pumps share similar advantages with gear pumps while being more compact in design and smaller in size.

Working Principle
Gear-type oil pumps are characterized by reliable operation, simple construction, ease of manufacturing, and high oil pressure output, making them widely adopted in engines.

During engine operation, the driving gear on the camshaft engages with the transmission gear of the oil pump, causing the driving gear fixed to its shaft to rotate. This drives the driven gear to rotate in the opposite direction, thereby moving oil from the inlet cavity to the outlet cavity along the pump housing. In this way, a low-pressure zone is created at the inlet, drawing oil from the oil pan into the pump. As the driving and driven gears continue to rotate, oil is continuously delivered to the required locations within the engine.
